About Em Joy

My name is Emily Joy. I was born in a Chicago, but made in sweet, home Rochester, Illinois. My dad tried to raise me on classic rock, but it only took one ride in the bed of a pick-up truck for me to fall in love with country music. It just seemed like the right thing to do for a small-town girl in central Illinois.

That was when it started. My fascination with doing things by the book. I believe in fitting myself to the mold of whatever environment I find myself in and capitalizing on the best that it has to offer. While I worked at a rodeo one summer, I rocked nothing but Daisy Dukes and cowgirl boots. The whole month of December is nothing but sparkle and cozy sweaters. I just love trying on as many hats as possible.

I guess you could say that I feed into stereotypes. That’s probably true, but I find them comforting and just plain fun! I might be a walking cliché, but who decided that was a bad thing?

When I’m not dressing up and going on adventures, you can probably find me typing away on my beloved MacBook. I’ve been writing for a publication (or two or five) since I was a freshman in high school and have been in love with it ever since. It’s the rush of meeting someone new and being blessed with the opportunity to tell their story. Everyone has a story, and I take my responsibility to tell it very seriously.

This delightful mesh of dress-up doll meets story teller is where this blog begins. It started out by trying to be The Book I try so hard to live by, but it’s grown from there. I believe in celebrating everyday. Today, I think EmJoyable is my way of sharing with you just how I do it.

I hope you enjoy my ideas, thoughts and tips in my this-is-how-I-do-things blog. Please reach out with any thoughts or comments of your own as well.
